Development of eco-designed bins at l’îlet cochons
L’Ilet Cochons is an emblematic place of the Cáyoli program. In order to preserve the uses while guaranteeing a lesser impact on the environment, Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes has implanted new eco-designed « carbets » (rudimentary housing in the form of a hut) on the site.
When arriving on the beach part of the Ilet Cochons, one could see installations made of sheet metal and old household appliances. These carbets of fortunes testified to a regular use of the site. However, their exposure to the elements resulted in a gradual degradation in the natural environment.
Guadeloupe Port Caraïbes with the technical assistance of the ONF (Office National des Forêts or French National Forestry Office) had the obsolete installations removed. Several technical meetings with the site’s users made it possible to define the format and implementation of the new equipment.*

Installation of eco-designed bins:
In consultation with the users of the Ilet Cochons, the makeshift bins were replaced by bins designed with adapted materials that respect the sites. This operation, carried out in partnership with the Office National des Forêts (French National Forestry Office), allows for the preservation of the family and traditional use of the site while helping to preserve the environment.

Prefiguration of an underwater educational trail:
The realization of an underwater trail is envisaged at l’Ilet Cochons as a tool for raising awareness of environmental preservation. It would give access to emblematic underwater environments and to the innovative environmental restoration techniques used in the program.
The prefiguration phase is in progress in order to determine the best possible location and a route for the trail.
